AH-NC732 Headphones
The exceptional craftsmanship of a Denon with the otherworldly coolness of noise cancellation?? Done. And done. The Denon AH-NC732 headphones perform like you would expect from a Denon. Noise cancellation always sacrifices sound to some extent, but these still sound wonderful, rich, and full. The clarity is exceptional.
So let’s focus on what the meat of what these babies offer: noise cancellation. The Denon AH-NC732’s work best in quiet to moderate environments like planes, offices, waiting rooms, etc. They work well in noisy environments with loud or high pitched noises, but you can still hear what is going on around you. For instance, when my spouse was nagging at me from another room, I couldn’t hear a thing. When my spouse came up to me and continued to nag, it sounded a bit like Charlie Brown’s teacher (there’s no cancellation for the ensuing head slap). That being said, they cancel out more noise than most other headphones on the market, and the sound is still fantastic.
So what’s not to like? For one, when the headphones are not on (or the batteries are dead from using them too much…like mine…) the music sounds significantly less delicious. In addition, when you’re walking around, the footsteps do something funky to the cups. You can hear your footsteps reverberating in the earpieces (I rectified this by imagining I was the T-Rex in Jurassic Park…in my home I actually made roaring noises and walked a little slower, pretending to go after my son’s G.I. Joe’s…no? Too much information? Alright, then).
Overall the Denon AH-NC732’s received excellent ratings. The only area of concern is the price. Denon’s are not known for their super low prices, and these follow suit. However, they certainly hold up to other models in the same price range, and they perform almost flawlessly. Well worth the money, especially for those who spend the majority of their lives travelling or in a cube.
