HD25-1 II Headphones
Small and lightweight, yet capable of delivering an outstanding sound? When I first saw the Sennheiser HD 25-1 II headphones, that statement created a great deal of scoffing. How can something so teeny make such big claims? After testing these puppies, I stand corrected. I should have known better than to doubt a Sennheiser. As studio headphones, their small size, light weight and very comfortable padding allow you to forget you’re even wearing headphones, even after hours upon hours of use. Those in audio recording facilities will appreciate their unexpected ability to block out background noise just as well as (and oftentimes better than) a full size set of cans. They feature sturdy construction and a detachable steel cable well-equipped to handle the wear and tear of professional applications. In addition, one of the earcups swivel – I found this useful when bragging to colleagues about these amazing headphones, but DJs and cameramen will probably enjoy them for professional reasons.
Now for the most important feature: sound. Talk about bang for your buck; the Sennheiser HD 25-1 II headphones sound outstanding! Capable of handling high pressure sound levels, the music is crystal clear and delicious. Unlike many headphones in this price category, they have a high range of frequencies and the capability of reproducing lower bass frequencies for full, complex sound. Whether using for professional or recreational applications, they deliver crisp sound anyone will undoubtedly enjoy.
If I had to make one criticism, it would be that the cord is quite short. It made me slightly grumpy when I would reach for work at my desk and send my iPod crashing to the floor. In addition, they are so light and airy that I’m always concerned about breaking them (an unfounded concern, as they have held up beautifully, but I’m still inclined to be careful). Finally the ear cups are smaller and do not envelop your ears like other full size headphones. This takes some getting used to.
I cannot fathom how these headphones have such an affordable price. For sound like this they could easily cost two or three times this price. For the price, the Sennheiser HD 25-1 II headphones are absolutely incredible. You will not be disappointed.
